Meyrick Cottage is a bright and modern four bedroom home situated in the leafy residential area of Meyrick Park. All the bedrooms have their own ensuite facilities, and the people requiring support are encouraged to decorate the rooms to their own tastes, so it offers a true home from home feel. Meyrick Cottage specialises in supporting individuals with learning disabilities, and offering them as much support as they need to be as independent as they wish to be. They are supported to enjoy a full range of activities and access the community, again as independently as they want to. Many people requiring support enjoy work training placements and voluntary opportunities during the week. The home also actively supports the people requiring support to develop their daily living skills, offering support with cooking, cleaning, and other various skills such as money management. Each activity is led by the people requiring support with support from the staff team.
The home is ideally situated on bus routes with easy access to both Charminster and Winton. Also being next to the Meyrick Park recreation area. The park offers a great opportunity via a short walk to be in the bustling town centre of Bournemouth with all of its great facilities, such as the gardens and beaches and shopping area. We actively encourage all people requiring support to embrace the wonderful opportunities that the local area has to offer. For instance some people requiring support will plan and take short breaks along the lovely coastal areas of Dorset and Devon. The home is also a short walk away from a leisure centre with facilities to join in sports and fitness activities and housing a large swimming pool.
Meyrick Cottage also has two rooms which cater for those who are preparing for more independent living in the future. Here the residents can enjoy the benefits of having support when they need it, but also more independence as they grow in confidence with independent living skills. Support is available with shopping, money management and all household skills if needed. So the residents feel both challenged and supported at the same time. Thus in time, and at their own pace, developing skills to move into a more independent setting. The overarching aim of Meyrick Cottage and its team is to support the residents to do the things they love.
